Zach Wilson has been demoted to the third-string quarterback for Friday’s game against the Dolphins, as Tim Boyle will now get the start after taking over for Wilson in Sunday’s loss to the Bills.
For Gio, even making Wilson the QB3 seems like an unnecessary move.
“Why the hell are they dressing the guy? What is the point of this?” Gio said. “They didn’t have the third emergency quarterback when Trevor Siemian was signed, but somehow now they’re afraid both of these guys might get hurt and Zach Wilson would have to play? Or do they feel like it was too embarrassing for Zach to just hold the clipboard again. What is the reason behind him dressing? It’s strange.”
Boomer agreed, and while he understands there is a cap hit that comes with cutting Wilson, he believes it would be the best course of action at this point, as it is assumed that Wilson won’t take another snap with the Jets.
“I keep saying ‘compassionate release.’ Like you catch a fish and then you throw it back,” Boomer said. “I kind of feel like that’s what they need to do with Zach.”
