Boomer admits that he had experience with the “same old Jets” mantra during his playing days in New York, suffering through moments that he just didn’t have words for after the fact.

Watching Friday’s game, where a Hail Mary attempt turned into a 99-yard interception return for the Dolphins, Boomer once again was left speechless.

“There are things that happen during Jets games that you just can’t explain,” Boomer said. “Those things have happened in other games.
You’ve seen guys go down, you’ve seen interceptions returned for touchdowns.
I’ve covered the NFL for 23 years now, played in the league…I have never seen a Hail Mary returned for a touchdown. I couldn’t put it into words. I was aghast.

“I still have no words to describe it…I was trying to describe to other people what happened, and even they were aghast.”

For Boomer, Friday’s disastrous play was the latest of many that have happened this season, and it seems like only the Jets deal with that level of pain so frequently.

“The Jets quarterback situation, you go from a Hall of Famer for four effin plays to guys who have no clue what they’re doing on the field,” Boomer said. “And it’s not Tim Boyle’s fault. I’m not gonna blame him.”
