Boomer Esiason opened Monday’s show by diving into the relationship between Aaron Rodgers and Robert Saleh, which he sees as icy, to say the least.
After Sunday’s embarrassing loss to the lowly Broncos, Rodgers opened some eyes with his response to Saleh wondering if the Jets need to tone down the cadence calls at the line of scrimmage to limit pre-snap penalties, and Boomer believes it is just another piece of evidence that there is a “definite divide” between quarterback and head coach.
“I don’t even think they talk to each other,” Boomer said. “I watch to try and see if there’s any interaction on the sideline, nothing. I see a guy walking right past another guy.
“I remember those days because I had those days with two coaches in particular, and it was because I didn’t trust the guy…I didn’t think he knew what he was doing.”
Boomer, after watching Rodgers during Sunday’s loss, sees a similar demeanor that he displayed in his playing days when he didn’t trust his head coach to put together the game plan necessary to win football games.
“If you read my body language in those days…you could tell I was pissed off,” Boomer said. “When I see Aaron Rodgers on the sideline and see him after the game in the postgame press conference, I’m only speculating…but I saw a very annoyed, frustrated quarterback, and I’ve seen an annoyed, frustrated quarterback for the last four weeks.
“There is a major issue there. They’ll deny it, I guarantee it. But there is an issue there, because you have a 40-year-old, Hall of Fame quarterback dealing with a head coach who I think he doesn’t respect.”
