Davante Adams spoke up in the Jets locker room after Sunday night’s loss to the Steelers, and Boomer believes Adams was the right player to speak up, even if he had just completed his first game with the team.
Why was Adams the best pick to set an example? Because Boomer saw the star wide receiver giving the most effort on the field, most notably hustling back after an interception to make a tackle on the 1-yard line.
“That one play tells me that that guy is all in,” Boomer said. “That’s the kind of play that the coaches will show to the team and say ‘This is the kind of effort we need.’ Here’s one of the best players in the league at his respective position in his first game, and he comes all the way back to make a seemingly meaningless tackle as he lays himself out.
“He cares. He gives a crap. If more players give a crap like he gave a crap, they wouldn’t be sitting in this situation.”
The Jets are in a tough spot at 2-5, but Boomer still believes there is enough time left to turn the season around and get into the playoffs. For that to become a reality, players will have to take Adams’ lead and start making things happen rather than waiting for something to happen.
“The entire team is waiting around for Aaron Rodgers to do something, when the rest of the team has to hold up their end of the bargain as well,” Boomer said. “You have to look at effort.
“What Davante is doing, I really do appreciate it. This is not nothing.”
