Boomer still expects Zach Wilson to be factor for Jets: 'He's just getting started'

Zach Wilson is back in pads for Sunday’s game against the Lions, as Robert Saleh told reporters on Wednesday that the former No. 2 draft pick will serve as Mike White’s backup in a crucial game.

Boomer Esiason says Wilson likely won’t be a backup for long, and given White’s ribs injury, Wilson could get into Sunday’s game.

“Zach has been in mothballs for three weeks, he’s had a lot of tough love and had to deal with a lot of crap, and I’m telling you, he’s gonna get a shot,” Boomer said. “It will be interesting to see if Mike White even makes it through the game.

“It has nothing to do with Mike White’s performance…I admire that kid. I think that kid has a future in the NFL….but they still have a second overall draft pick that is sitting on this roster.”

Boomer says the Jets are doing “exactly” what they should do by elevating Wilson to the backup role, but don’t be surprised if Wilson gets a chance at redemption on Sunday.

“He’s not done yet,” Boomer said. “He’s just getting started.”
