Aaron Rodgers has been the talk of the NFL since joining the Jets, but one major question has been how much time Gang Green has to try and win with the future Hall of Famer before he calls it a career.
The debate has mainly been that it will either be one or two years, but Boomer believes it could actually be even more.
“I think they went out there for the initial meetings and told him, ‘This is how we have to do things,’ and I think he understood that,” Boomer said. “I think he gave them a three-year commitment. I think they have to do that because of cap reasons and things of that nature.”
Still, Boomer wanted to add the caveat that even if that was the initial commitment, things can change for a quarterback who is approaching 40 years old.
“I say that today, and everyone can go run with it all they want,” Boomer said. “But let’s say, the best case scenario, he gets them to the playoffs, they lose in the playoffs, but he had a good year. He’s definitely coming back. Worst case scenario, let’s say he plays three games, blows out a shoulder, and is done for the year. Who knows what the future then holds? There are all different variables. He’s not gonna only be here for one year. That’s my point.
“You could say, ‘This is what I want to give you,’ and he’s in great shape and taking care of himself, but injuries always have to be taken into account, especially for a player who is going to be 40 years old. But he sees, from everything I hear, is just a refreshed attitude. He’s with his buddy Nathaniel Hackett, he’s got a bunch of young guys around him that are really good, and all these guys need is direction.”
