Gio can’t believe Zach Wilson is going to miss the first month of the season after apparently being in play to start Week 1 as recently as earlier this week.
“The fact that he’s gonna miss three games? I’m sorry, that’s something new,” Gio said. “That came out of nowhere. First it was 2-4 weeks, he might be available for Week 1, then Saleh was saying yesterday that he might have a shot…but a month??”
With the shock wearing off, the attention now turns to Joe Flacco, who Boomer says has a chance to put Gang Green in a very tough spot moving forward.
“What he should do is go out and play his ass off and make it a very difficult decision for the Jets,” Boomer said. “What are you gonna do if they’re 3-1 and he’s averaging 280 yards a game with two touchdowns and has thrown two interceptions in three games and the team has won three out of the first four games?”
Gio doesn’t see that happening.
“If that happens, then obviously he’s gonna have to play a little more, but I just can’t imagine that happening with the way he’s played the last three seasons,” Gio said.
Boomer also doesn’t have high hopes for such a scenario, mainly because of the early road for New York to begin the season, which the team will now do without its starting quarterback.
“The problem is, they’re opening against the AFC North,” Boomer said. “All four teams. And you have three of the best defenses in football in the Ravens, Browns, and Steelers.”
