BT and Sal are split on the Jets hiring Aaron Glenn as their new head coach, with Sal worried that Gang Green is once again trying a similar recipe and hoping that the finished product will taste different than previous failures.
After failing with a former defensive coordinator and first-year head coach in Robert Saleh, New York is bringing in Glenn with a very similar background, and Sal believes it could be another road to disaster, even if it doesn’t have anything to do with Glenn personally.
“It’s not about Aaron Glenn...they’re doing the same thing over and over again,” Sal said. “The one thing at my core that needed to be different this time was hiring someone with experience.
“If they don’t do it with the head coach, they better do it with the GM. Doesn’t seem like that’s gonna happen either. Until I see it, I can’t believe that this is going to be the right hire.”
BT agrees that the Jets would benefit from bringing in a general manager with experience at the position, and not repeat that same pattern this time around, but as for the head coach, he sees a leader in Glenn that will “immediately” help clean up the team’s sloppy penalties and lack of focus, and believes the similarities to Saleh stop with their respective resumes when they were hired.
“I think Aaron Glenn is very quickly going to show us that he is everything we wanted and hoped Robert Saleh to be, and Robert Saleh was not,” BT said. “He’s gonna be an ass kicker, he’s gonna be old school, he’s gonna hold you accountable. He’s gonna be fiery. He’s gonna be the complete antithesis of Saleh, and that’s a good start.
“I think he can be a star. They just have to insulate him.”
