Tiki & Tierney were on the air when the NFL’s “legal tampering” period before free agency officially opened at noon Monday, and by the time they were off the air, Aaron Rodgers was still a Packer but Mike White and Jimmy Garoppolo, last year’s Jets backup and a backup target behind Rodgers, were in Miami and Las Vegas, respectively.
Which makes this statement from BT early in the show even more prescient:
“The plan is no matter when Aaron Rodgers tells the Jets that he wants to play for the Jets, that is how long the Jets wait, period. That’s it.”
In his rant, BT cited the doubters, who said that if the Jets didn’t have a Rodgers deal done by 12:01 p.m. today, they had to pivot and go to a different plan, and gave them a simple answer: no, they don’t.
“Yeah, it's egotistical, selfish, and a little petty that we are here Monday morning, with free agency about to go bonkers and the Jets’ contingent flying out to California last week,” BT said, acknowledging that it’s “alarming” to some that even after the Rodgers/Jets meeting reportedly went well that Aaron hasn’t said anything.
Not in his eyes, though, because that’s typical Rodgers.
“Do I think so? Not as much as everybody else, because I baked in his weirdness from Day 1,” BT said. “This is Aaron Rodgers trying to maximize every single second of exposure. So, let me again present this in a way contrary to what I’ve heard.”
And that’s when he whipped out his “Rodgers or bust” idea.
“I think the idea that if Rodgers doesn’t tell the Jets by noon that they have to go get someone else is crazy,” BT said. “You don't, devise this incredibly-detailed, all-in, intricate offseason plan with all the contract restructures, and you don't go that far into this without Aaron Rodgers being Choice 1, Choice 2, and Choice 3.”
With Derek Carr, Garoppolo, and even White off the board already, Jets fans have to hope that Tierney is right, and the waiting will be the hardest part.
