BT and Sal opened Thursday’s show by reacting to the scathing report of Woody Johnson by The Athletic, which illustrated stories of ownership using Madden ratings to sway roster decisions, allowing teenage sons to have input and roam the locker room, and criticizing draft choices by his staff after they are made.
BT and Sal were inclined to believe the details of the report given how things have transpired over the years under Johnson’s watch, and it only further cements the organization’s standing as a laughingstock in the NFL.
“They are an atrocious organization, quite frankly,” BT said, criticizing Johnson as an owner who is only out for power. “The teenage sons’ influence is one thing, relying on Madden ratings, mocking draft choices after they occurred, but to me, the most damning piece - if it’s true - is Woody Johnson calling out Mike White after White played with two broken ribs.
“If you feel as the owner - it’s your team and you can do what you want - but if you believe it’s smart and acceptable to demean someone when they play injured, you now completely compromise the professionalism of a franchise. It’s one thing to lose games. It’s another thing to not respect how guys compete.”
For Sal, the report only further painted the picture of Johnson being a rich owner who sees his team as nothing more than his toy to do whatever he wants with, and the result is a toxic atmosphere that hasn’t led to any kind of success on the field.
“It just feels like a rich owner who is using this as a toy and a game, as opposed to a business and a reality as far as trying to give fans what they want and take things seriously,” Sal said.
“If Joe Douglas has to answer to a teenager, that’s embarrassing...this is a rich daddy letting his rich, spoiled kids run the organization. If you’re a player, why the hell would you want to deal with that stuff?”
