BT & Sal go off on 'clueless' Jets for reportedly dismissing potential Bill Belichick interest

According to multiple reports over the weekend, Bill Belichick reached out to the Jets to gauge their interest in bringing the legendary head coach in to replace Robert Saleh, but there were no conversations by Gang Green about even entertaining the idea.

Per ESPN, there was skepticism if Belichick was even truly interested in the Jets, a team he has openly criticized since resigning as their head coach 24 years ago, but BT and Sal ripped the team for seemingly not even entertaining the idea of bringing in one of the winningest coaches in league history.

“The Jets try to be spiteful and try to get him back for something that happened 20-plus years ago,” BT said. “For the Jets to not even have a conversation is really laughable.

“Have the conversation. Figure out what the man is thinking…they missed a window to really add some information to their portfolio. To not even have the conversation is criminal. It’s laughable…it’s embarrassing.”

BT was so furious about the report when it first broke that he called in to the FAN and Chris McMonigle over the weekend to vent his frustration, and it hadn’t simmered down by Monday.

“You know why? Ego, lack of vision, lack of forward thinking,” BT said. “Too many things that have plagued the Jets since Woody Johnson has been here.”

Belichick will instead head to the college ranks to coach at UNC, and while Sal didn’t see Belichick as a good head coaching option for any other NFL team, he says the Jets were the only exception.

“The Jets are just clueless, and nothing’s gonna change,” Sal said. “They’re gonna screw this up. The Jets should have done everything in their power, going back years, to get a guy like that to even consider them.

“This team is the worst-coached team that maybe the sport has ever seen…they had talent, but they were a disaster from the word ‘go’ because they had no direction. They are gonna be a mess now. A mess!”
