BT has a theory about the Jets’ relentless commitment to Zach Wilson, seemingly sticking with him for the long haul after bringing in Trevor Siemian to the practice squad instead of a more accomplished quarterback to compete for the starting job.
The theory? Rodgers and Wilson became fast friends this offseason, and the Jets are worried that if they dump Wilson, they will lose Rodgers as well.
“Why have the Jets not brought in a competent replacement for Zach? I mean Matt Ryan, [Jacoby] Brissett, Colt McCoy, Carson Wentz. If they discard Wilson for one of those names, you think Aaron Rodgers is coming back next year? I don’t,” BT said. “He loves him. He loves Wilson. I think if the Jets do to Wilson what he perceives to be dirty, I think he’d say ‘I’m done. I’m not playing.’ I actually think the Jets - I can’t prove this, just a strong gut - how they’ve filled this other spot on the depth chart is completely predicated on how Aaron would react.”
Sal says, if that were true, then the Jets have become a flat-out embarrassment completely dependent on Rodgers, but BT believes it is one of the only sensible explanations.
“If they’re doing this because they’re, in their minds, a step or two ahead trying to imagine how Rodgers would react to his buddy Wilson being pulled at halftime against the Pats or halftime against the Chiefs, I honestly think that I’m onto something,” BT said. “I don’t want to be right about that, but how does it feel any other way?”
