BT began Monday’s show by calling for Robert Saleh’s job, but he wanted to be clear that he does not want offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett taking the job over at the end of this season.
BT hasn’t seen anything from Hackett this year to make him think he would fare better as head coach of the Jets than he did last year with the Broncos, though passing up on Hackett could frustrate Aaron Rodgers, who is very close with Hackett.
If that’s the case, BT says Rodgers can follow Saleh and Hackett out the door.
“If you get rid of Saleh at the end of the year, then you think that you elevate Hackett with his relationship and presence with Rodgers. I don’t even care about that anymore,” BT said. “If Rodgers doesn’t like it, then Aaron Rodgers can leave.
“Hackett, as a head coach, if worse than Saleh, and that’s saying something…this has to be bigger than Rodgers. If Rodgers is so turned off by the fact that Saleh was fired and Hackett was not elevated to be the head coach, and he causes a stink, then Rodgers can follow them all out the door.”
BT knows where the Jets offense is without Rodgers right now, but he also thinks the coaching and play calling has been a big contributor to the team’s offensive woes. So, even if it means losing the quarterback and future Hall of Famer that they coveted this past offseason, saying goodbye to Saleh and Hackett would be best for the future of the franchise.
“Saleh: gone. Hackett: gone. Rodgers, you want to stay? Great, but if not, you can leave too,” BT said. “It is so much bigger than the 39-year-old quarterback.”
