BT: Jets season has been greatest failure in New York sports history given hype vs. results

BT and Sal were live on the air as news broke that the Jets had reportedly fired Joe Douglas as general manager, seemingly signaling yet another all-out rebuild for a franchise that has endured plenty of them.

With Douglas joining Robert Saleh on the unemployment line, and Aaron Rodgers looking like a shell of himself, BT says that this all-in experiment with Rodgers at the forefront will go down as the biggest flop in New York sports history.

“It’s really the greatest failure in the history of New York sports...this is the most colossal - by far - failure, because it is on every single level,” BT said.

“When you match the money, the hype, and the expectations, and the energy that we put forth...what a colossal fail.”

BT was hopeful that Douglas would be able to guide the Jets out of their historic playoff drought, offering signs of hope with draft picks like Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner, but ultimately, it was just another bit of false hope before a disastrous season that led to his exit.

“Didn’t work out. I really thought it had a really good chance to work out,” BT said. “I’m a little surprised it hits us now.

“Now go find somebody who actually knows how to build a team.”

Douglas had some egregious misses, like drafting Zach Wilson and pulling off a blockbuster trade for Rodgers that has proven to be nothing short of disastrous, but he says the GM’s biggest mistake in his five-plus seasons that resulted in a 30-64 record is trading for Haason Reddick and letting multiple key pieces of Gang Green’s pass rush leave as a result, only for Reddick to hold out for months.

For Sal, the firing was certainly warranted.

“He had every opportunity here,” Sal said.
