BT is all in on the Jets this season, but given his painful history as a fan, he is taking a measured approach toward the franchise’s most hyped season in over 20 years.
“This century, the Jets have missed the playoffs 17 out of 23 times,” BT said. “They currently own the largest playoff drought across all major sports. Nobody has been on playoff ice longer than the Jets.
“They’ve had seven head coaches and general managers this century. And I’m supposed to sit here…and expect a Super Bowl? That’s ridiculous and unrealistic.”
While many fans are dreaming of a potential Super Bowl appearance behind Aaron Rodgers and a loaded young core, BT says patience should be exercised in year one under Rodgers. The AFC is a gauntlet, and if the team ends its record playoff drought and does little else, why should that be considered an abject failure?
“This has been almost unfair to the Jets,” BT said. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m all in emotionally…if it implodes, I’m finished. I’d be absolutely destroyed as a sports fan…but that doesn’t mean I can’t at least look at this in a way that is not all emotional.
“If the jets make the playoffs and lose a well-played, tightly-contested playoff game, how am I gonna rant and rave like a lunatic that the Jets failed me? I can’t do that.”
