BT wants no part of Jets trading up in draft to take top quarterback

As rumors simmer about the Jets being an option to trade up to a top spot in the draft and take a quarterback, BT made it clear to start Wednesday’s show that he would want no part of the new regime making such a move.

“I’m not throwing a 70-yard Hail Mary as my first move as an executive and head coach of the New York Jets,” BT said. “If anything, I’m going the conservative route and trading out…or stay at seven and get the best available player. I ain’t trading out.”

The Jets currently hold the seventh overall pick, while the Titans and Browns hold the top two picks. If Gang Green wants either Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward, they likely would need to move into the top two. BT says it could be a recipe for disaster, especially if teams that need quarterbacks are willing to trade out of a spot where they would be able to take the top prospects available at that position.

“Tennessee has the first overall pick, and they need a quarterback…so do the Browns,” BT said. “The Titans seem gung-ho to trade out of the first spot. Why would the Jets do it? It just seems like a cavalier, unnecessary risk to me.”

Sal leans towards agreeing with BT on the subject, though he says such a move would admittedly add a lot more intrigue to draft night, and to the start of the Aaron Glenn/Darren Mougey era.

“I just don’t like the idea in general. You’d be doing the same exact thing,” Sal said. “You’d still have a first-time GM and first-time head coach with a rookie quarterback and an inexperienced offensive coordinator…it would still be that same situation that has failed them.”
