As the Jets enter another pivotal offseason, C-Mac isn’t as concerned with the offensive line as many Gang Green fans appear to be.
For C-Mac, priority No. 1 is addressing the big mistake that was left untouched prior to last season, which became apparent just four snaps into the season opener when Aaron Rodgers went down with an Achilles injury.
“You need to have a legitimate backup,” C-Mac said. “I’m talking about just being a 40-year-old guy dealing with this stuff, he can have a hamstring that costs him two weeks. Or a calf muscle. He can have anything.
“You need to have a backup quarterback, even more than the offensive line to protect him. Obviously that’s important. But for me, numero uno…I am much more focused on what the Jets do at the backup quarterback position.”
The Jets rolled with Zach Wilson last season as QB2, and the season went off the rails. C-Mac says addressing that roster spot is even more important that bolstering the protection around Rodgers.
“You can’t have another season that dies on the vine the second he goes down,” C-Mac said. “You have to at least have some hope.”
