Robert Saleh gave Zach Wilson another vote of confidence on Monday, telling reporters that Wilson is the Jets’ “unquestioned” quarterback moving forward, while praising the improvements he has made in practice and on Sundays.
Of course, Jets fans feel very differently after watching Wilson help the offense put up just 10 points in a loss to the Patriots on Sunday, and C-Mac says Saleh is either protecting his young quarterback, or is completely delusional.
“I still, in the back of my mind, I have trouble believing Saleh believes that,” C-Mac said. “Saleh is a football guy…I find it hard to believe that a guy, whether he is a good football coach or not, it’s hard for me to fathom that this guy is OK with the concept of improving off the field is enough to keep him on the field when there is no improvement on the field.
“Where are you seeing this improvement, and how the hell does that matter?”
It’s gonna drag your team down. Not just wins and losses. The team is going to fracture.
Yet, Saleh stands at the podium and lauds the improvement in confidence and decision making that Wilson has shown, though there is little evidence on tape to support those comments. So, is Saleh just that cognisant of shielding Wilson from criticism, or does he actually believe what he is saying?
“He’s just blindly going along with it,” C-Mac said. “I can’t believe he thinks this. It’s hard for me to believe, but he’s saying it.
“I don’t know if he’s doing the bidding of somebody else, but it’s gonna cost him…Some of the stuff he is doubling down on today is some of the biggest bunch of nonsense I have ever heard in my life.”
