Callers were strong in their support of Zach Wilson on Tuesday, but when C-Mac heard from a fan declaring that Wilson has no help around him on the Jets roster, he had heard enough.
“When he threw the ball at Breece Hall’s feet on third down, that’s his fault,” C-Mac said. “When he’s taking sacks instead of throwing the ball and trusts his teammates, that’s his fault.
“Everything on the Jets sucks except Zach Wilson. You got it. You nailed it…I guess they don’t have the Rookie of the Year defensive cornerback, the Rookie of the Year offensive wide receiver.”
The caller brought up a tired narrative of why teams shouldn’t give up on quarterbacks who struggle early in their careers, like Wilson has, and that set C-Mac off.
“Enough of the Phil Simms stuff. My God,” C-Mac said. “That was 100 years ago. The NFL is completely different now. C.J. Stroud comes in and is throwing three touchdowns again…it’s a different sport. Come up with a better example.
“You’re making it seem like the rest of the team is holding back Zach Wilson. That’s an asinine comment…you have Breece Hall, he’s one of the most dynamic running backs…you think every team has that?”
