C-Mac: What matters most for Jets is that Aaron Rodgers looked like his normal self

Monday’s loss to the 49ers was hardly what Chris McMonigle expected from the Jets in Week 1, but he won’t be putting too much stock in the 32-19 defeat on the road.

If anything, the loss only shows that the Jets are not ready to compete with the best of the best, but Monday didn’t lead C-Mac to believe that such a revelation is guaranteed to prevail through the entire season.

“Here’s what we know for sure: The New York Jets, at the moment, are not ready to hang with the upper echelon teams in the NFL,” C-Mac said. “They are not ready quite yet.”

Far more importantly for C-Mac, and what he believes is far more important for the Jets, was the play of Aaron Rodgers, who C-Mac says showed signs that he can put together a typical star campaign that can take the Jets to the next level.

“What I wanted to see, and what the Jets needed to see, was Aaron Rodgers and this offense…you didn’t exactly see this offense take flight, but I saw Aaron Rodgers look like Aaron Rodgers,” C-Mac said. “I saw him make a back shoulder throw from the other hash mark to Garrett Wilson. Perfect. I saw him make a throw just over the defender’s head to Allen Lazard in stride down the sideline. I saw him hit Lazard to the end zone on a free play, his calling card. He looked like Aaron Rodgers. It wasn’t necessarily the best we’ve seen from Aaron Rodgers. He was a little rusty…but this offense, at times - that touchdown drive was as good as we’ve seen this offense play in years.”
