C-Mac: Jets defense still doesn't look like one that can make team Super Bowl caliber

The Jets got in the win column on Sunday, doing just enough to hold off the Titans to get a victory on the road.

While there were areas of promise, particularly Aaron Rodgers and the offense, Chris McMonigle says there are still clear concerns on the defensive side of the ball.

“This defense still does not look like a group that is capable of being a Super Bowl defense,” C-Mac said. “Yes, they won a game on the road, which is not easy to do. No, the Titans are no pushover…but they’re being judged as a Super Bowl contender…and they just gave up too much.

“This defense needs to be much better. For a head coach who talked about easy fixes, they still had major issues inside this defense. They are judged right now at a high standard. This defense was supposed to be a given and the strength of this team.”

The Jets weren’t torched like they were in Week 1 against the 49ers, but the run defense still looked like an issue, and the pass rush took a major hit as Jermaine Johnson appears to be lost for the season with an Achilles injury. C-Mac says that will only enhance the team’s need to bring in Haason Reddick, but even with Reddick in the fold, the defense isn’t looking like many believed it would this season.

“This team is all based on if they’re good enough to win a championship,” C-Mac said. “So far, two weeks in, I don’t see a team that’s good enough to be a Super Bowl team.”
