C-Mac: Jets win feels like 'too little too late' to save season
The Jets came back in the second half to beat the shorthanded Texans on Thursday night and finally snap their five-game losing streak.
Chris McMonigle loved what he started to see from the Jets offense during the final 30 minutes of play, particularly the Aaron Rodgers/Garrett Wilson connection, as Wilson hauled in two one-handed touchdown grabs to lead the comeback.
It was an encouraging sign, but C-Mac believes that connection, and the offense as a hole, needed to get going weeks ago to salvage the season.
“It’s still not there just yet, and at 3-6, it still feels like too little too late,” C-Mac said. “If they win the game against New England...or they go back and win against Denver, you’re talking about a season still being alive...maybe this season would be in a different place than you feel it is right now, which is probably too little too late.”
A loss on Thursday would have provided a trap door to a new rock bottom on the season, so at the very least, all-out disaster was avoided. Still, C-Mac has a hard time seeing New York end its record playoff drought given its 3-6 record.
“They made the plays to win this game, but they score a touchdown and put themselves up 14-10, and immediately, the defense gives up a big play, they let Tank Dell get behind them,” C-Mac said.
“As much as I’m excited about this win, and the offense did click...but this loss would have stamped the season as officially dead. That’s what they’re fighting against.”
