C-Mac not buying Jets faith in Zach Wilson

The Jets are publicly expressing their confidence in Zach Wilson as he prepares for his first start of the season, but after seeing how the team reacted when Wilson was benched last season, C-Mac isn’t buying it for a second.

“The entire team was begging for it,” C-Mac said. “His wide receivers were begging for it. His defense was begging for it.

“I refuse to believe that suddenly, everyone feels different…any Jets that was a part of the team last year, I’m sorry, there’s no way in hell they lose Aaron Rodgers like that…there is no way in hell this team is confident in the idea that it’s Zach Wilson’s team. It’s just not. It is a Sauce Gardner team more than it is a Zach Wilson team. It’s a Garrett Wilson team more than it is a Zach Wilson team.”

C-Mac believes the Jets locker room still isn’t high on Wilson, and didn’t do much to hide their lack of belief in the former second overall pick last season. Now, the team is simply saying what they need to when in front of a camera, but privately, are likely fuming that the Jets didn’t secure a better backup plan in the event Aaron Rodgers missed time.

“The biggest mistake of all of this is not bringing in someone else to be the backup to Aaron Rodgers,” C-Mac said. “You may not have season a season-ending injury in Week 1, but it is an older guy…it was plausible he would miss some time. It’s the NFL.”
