C-Mac: Only way forward for Jets next season is with Aaron Rodgers back under center

Aaron Rodgers told reporters on Wednesday that he expects to play again in 2025 and continue with his initial plan to play multiple seasons with the Jets, despite how badly things have gone in New York this season.

Some Jets fans reacted negatively to those comments given Rodgers’ age and his production so far this season, but Chris McMonigle says Rodgers being back under center in 2025 would be the best outcome for the team right now.

“He looks old, he looks a shell of himself, and is in the midst of a losing season unlike any other that he’s had,” C-Mac said. “I think the only way to continue is ride it out another year and bring Aaron Rodgers back. No matter what they do, they have to pay him.

“I don’t see a trade being viable. There’s really only one solution here…it’s bring back Aaron Rodgers, draft a quarterback somewhere along the line…get a new head coach in here and probably involve Aaron Rodgers in the decision making.”

Some have argued that the Jets head coaching job becomes less desirable if Rodgers is there, as some coaches may believe that the future Hall of Famer would want to be too involved in the construction of the offensive plan and roster construction. But C-Mac says the absence of any kind of quarterback would be even worse, so the Jets might as well give it another year of sticking with the plan and hoping for the best.

“They’re owned by Woody Johnson, they don’t have a quarterback…you’re gonna be paying Aaron Rodgers one way or another,” C-Mac said. “I don’t know what you do if you’re the Jets other than stick with the plan and hope next year is better.”
