C-Mac was on the air shortly after the Jets came up just short of a win against the Chiefs, and fans were still fuming about the holding call on Sauce Gardner that negated an interception, and a missed holding call that led to a first down scramble by Patrick Mahomes on 3rd-and-22.
C-Mac doesn’t like placing the outcome of a game squarely on an official, but says Jets fans should be angry at the fact that it robbed them of a chance to see if Zach Wilson could be the hero in what had been the best game of his career.
“I don’t know if you were robbed of the game. I have a very hard time sometimes just putting a win or loss on a call,” C-Mac said. “But you were robbed of an opportunity to see if Zach Wilson could finish what he started.
“That was an atrocious defensive holding call, and a call that came after an interception…that flag is extremely late, and there is hardly any contact. It is an atrocious call. And yes, they missed a terrible holding call on Jermaine Johnson earlier in that drive on one of the many 3rd-and-longs.”
Wilson had been outdueling Patrick Mahomes all night, but his costly dropped snap led to the eventual game-winning field goal, and the controversial calls, or lack thereof, from the officials ensured that Wilson wouldn’t have a shot at redemption.
“You were robbed of Zach Wilson getting an opportunity,” C-Mac said. “After a field goal, to try and take the Jets down the field and score a game-winning touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champions.”
