Woody Johnson ripped Zach Wilson by commenting that the Jets didn’t have a backup quarterback last season, and C-Mac says the Jets owner conveniently omitted Johnson’s part in Gang Green’s miserable 7-10 season.
Starting with his comments about the importance of fixing the offense, yet at the same time, hanging on to Robert Saleh.
“Sure, keep your defensive head coach. Makes sense. That’ll fix it,” C-Mac said sarcastically. “Take our defensive head coach, who has been terrible…who everyone wants fired except me of course, because I’m the idiot who thinks you keep him for Aaron Rodgers, but we’re gonna focus on the offense!
“He hasn’t been allowed to play the quarterback he wants to play! He’s not a Zach Wilson guy, despite the fact he tells us otherwise! He’s gonna focus on the offense, when he’s not allowed to dictate who his quarterback is! Please.”
Meanwhile, Rodgers was hurt four snaps into his Jets tenure, and C-Mac says Johnson didn’t initiate a directive to get a veteran quarterback in to weather the storm, and instead is blaming the quarterback who failed in Rodgers’ place, when the front office clearly didn’t believe he was ready to be an NFL starter.
“And then to throw blame on the idea that you did not have a backup quarterback…this owner, who had to be involved in that decision making, instead of taking any responsibility for it, he says ‘we didn’t have a backup quarterback,’” C-Mac said. “That’s the guy you drafted, who you allowed to be the backup quarterback.
“They had opportunities to go get quarterbacks, and do something besides relying on Zach Wilson, who should have never been the backup for this team at all.”
