As the Jets get set to take on C.J. Stroud and the Texans, they will get a look at what could have been had their young quarterback become everything they hoped he could be.
That certainly didn’t happen with Zach Wilson, but C-Mac says if there was ever a time the former No. 2 overall pick showed some actual promise, Sunday would be the time.
“You could see Zach Wilson play his best game as a Jet. I honestly believe that,” C-Mac said. “After all the noise, all this nonsense, this controversy about him not wanting to play, it’s official. He’s done as a New York Jet…it’s over for him. There’s nothing else to do but try and perform in any way to make any other team feel interested in the slightest to bring him on board.
“I think this Texans defense is a defense you can throw on…Zach Wilson talked about having fun and taking shots down the field.”
Wilson has arguably been the worst quarterback in the NFL since making his debut, and the Jets quarterback play all season has been abysmal. But with nothing much left to play for and Wilson being all but done as a Jet anyway, maybe there is a sense of freedom on the field that will unlock something Wilson hasn’t shown in the NFL up to this point.
“Having said that, and knowing wins and losses at 4-8 no longer matter, and there is no pressure…you can actually convince me that Zach Wilson is going to take chances down the field, and we might just see some explosive plays out of the Jets,” C-Mac said. “We might see some turnovers or terrible throws, but we might actually see some explosive plays.”
