Jets owner Woody Johnson told reporters on Thursday that he has no playoff mandate set for this current Gang Green regime, and that the jobs of Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas do not hang on the team reaching the postseason next year.
Craig and Evan aren’t buying that for a second.
“How do you tell a long-suffering fan base that it is not playoffs or get the f out?” Craig wondered.
Evan believes that even if Johnson wouldn’t say publicly that next season is playoffs or bust, that absolutely is the mindset from ownership after this season’s collapse.
“I'm telling you right now, if the New York Jets don't make the playoffs next year, I guaran-damn-tee to you, Robert Saleh is not working here anymore,” Evan said. “Period, stop. I understand your frustration because I, like you, want to hear it. I agree. I want to hear Woodrow Johnson say the words, ‘You best make the playoffs or I'm gonna fire your a--.’ I wanna hear it too. With that said, trust me, there's a playoff mandate, even if he doesn't say there's a playoff mandate.
“I think you know this deep down. There is a playoff mandate. When you take the offensive coordinator who id BFF with the head coach, and you fire his a-- and talk about the talent you have, you’re saying there’s a playoff mandate without there being a playoff mandate. Robert Saleh is not the head coach two years from now if the Jets don’t make the playoffs next year. That’s a guarantee.”
