Craig: Losing Aaron Rodgers would be 'biggest embarrassment in Jets history'

Craig seems convinced that the Jets and Packers trade talks for Aaron Rodgers are falling apart, and if that were to happen, it would be a new low for the franchise.

“This would be the single biggest embarrassment and letdown in New York Jets history,” Craig said. “Because it’s been so public.

“If the player came out and said he wants to be a Jet, the Jets acknowledge they want him, Green Bay acknowledges they’re gonna trade him, and then for whatever reason it doesn’t get done, that’s embarrassing.”

Evan, who still believes wholeheartedly that a deal will get done, agrees that it would be a massively unfortunate all-time letdown for a team that has already provided him with several moments of disappointment over the years.

“It’s been so done in my mind that if somehow this thing crumbled and fell apart, and there really isn’t a backup plan…it would be up there,” Evan said. “It would certainly be on the Mount Rushmore of Jets disappointments.”

Evan’s final remark led Craig to ask what the Mount Rushmore currently consists of, and not surprisingly, Evan was ready with his candidates.

“Vinny [Testaverde] getting hurt,” Evan said, referencing Week 1 of the 1999 season when the team’s last legitimate quarterback ruptured his Achilles. “Victor Cruz is still running…the third is probably gonna be the game in Pittsburgh [the 2004 AFC Divisional battle with the Steelers] where we lost in overtime and Doug Brien missed a couple kicks. The [2010] AFC championship game too , just the way they came out in that game…’I see ghosts,’ that’s up there too…the fake spike is up there too.

“How about something from this year? They did lose their final [six] games. You want to go Braxton Berrios drop in the end zone? You want to go Thursday Night Football against the Jaguars, with Chris Streveler coming in to save Zach Wilson?”
