Dianna Russini, senior NFL insider for The Athletic, joined Gio and Stugotz on Tuesday to talk Jets as Gang Green reports to training camp to prepare for the upcoming season.
As training camp gets set to begin, one of the big storylines coming out of Florham Park is the possibility that Gang Green makes a big splash by trading for Davante Adams to reunite the star wide receiver with Aaron Rodgers.
Russini threw some cold water on those rumors.
“There’s not a lot of truth to that,” Russini said. “I think there’s a lot of ‘want.’ Last year, when Aron Rodgers handed over that ‘wish list’ of people he wanted on the team, Davante Adams was on it.
“He’s had his eye on him. They’re really good friends. It makes sense. Davante is probably looking at the situation in New York going, ‘They’re a lot closer than the Vegas Raiders in terms of getting to a Super Bowl,’ but I don’t think the front offices here are looking at this as a realistic situation that could actually pan out.”
Things can change, perhaps even during the season if the Jets are off to a fast start while the Raiders are struggling, but as of now, Russini doesn’t believe there is anything to the reports linking Adams to Gang Green.
“Both sides, from what I understand,” Russini said. “There is no real interest in making this happen.”
