Boomer & Gio: Does Robert Saleh have makeup to be a Super Bowl winning coach?

One of the key factors for the Jets this season will be the continued evolution of Robert Saleh as head coach, and Gio is worried Saleh may not have the assertiveness or confidence to be the kind of coach and disciplinarian Gang Green needs to win a title.

“The presence of Rob Saleh does not seem like what a championship head coach would have,” Gio said. “He doesn’t have the thing I’m looking for…which is a guy who is in command.

“Dan Campbell…he was the dude. Sean McVay…you could just tell he was in charge. Robert Saleh, his personality, maybe it’s a good thing for certain aspects of coaching, but his personality and seeing him up close, I get a little concerned about that.”

Boomer doesn’t share that concern, and believes different coaching styles work for different teams, and it has been proven that coaches with a friendlier approach can still win championships.

“I felt like his message was being heard,” Boomer said. “I feel like the players like him. On the sidelines, he’s more Pete Carroll than he is Bill Belichick.”

The big question will be whether Saleh is able to coach and lead Aaron Rodgers, who many feel is an extension of the coach at this point in training camp. Gio believes it will be Rodgers issuing the tirades if he doesn’t like what he sees, not Saleh.

“He’s gonna be the one ripping everybody apart,” Gio said. “When Peyton Manning won the Super Bowl with the Broncos, I think it will be kind of like that.”
