Jets rookie wide receiver Elijah Moore told reporters on Tuesday that the plan was to make his preseason debut against the Eagles on Friday.
Instead, Moore will likely miss all of the preseason.
Head coach Robert Saleh told reporters on Wednesday that both Moore and Alijah Vera-Tucker, the team’s top two draft picks behind Zach Wilson, likely won’t play in Friday’s game against Philadelphia, meaning both will miss all three preseason games heading into their rookie seasons.
“I doubt it,” Saleh said when asked if the two would play Friday.
Moore was taken with the 34th overall pick and was opening eyes at training camp and around the league as a potential No. 1 target for Wilson, but he has been slowed by a quad injury. Moore returned to practice on Tuesday, but it seems like Saleh and the Jets don’t think he will be ready to go in game action by Friday.
The same goes for Vera-Tucker, the team’s 14th overall pick who was out with a pectoral injury. He also returned on Tuesday to practice, but don’t expect to see him suited up for the third and final preseason game.
The offensive line might be without another contributor in Mekhi Becton on Friday, as Saleh told reporters that Becton is in concussion protocol after leaving Tuesday’s practice early shortly after a helmet-to-helmet collision.
