Evan: Was Aaron Rodgers practice leak a ploy to sell season tickets?

An article by Rich Cimini of ESPN detailed Aaron Rodgers wowing Jets players at private practices in the final days of the regular season, fueling hope that next season will be a good one for the 40-year-old.

The article led Evan to wonder why such details would have been leaked to the press, and believes it could be a business strategy from the Jets.

“I said this about the Wink versus Daboll articles getting leaked. You always have to wonder, why is this being put out there?” Evan said.

“A story like this is put out there to make Jet fans feel good, no question. But this is cynical Evan. The other reason this is put out there is, ‘See? Buy season tickets! Buy them now!’ I buy that.”

The Jets have deployed such a tactic this season already, having Aaron Rodgers call season ticket holders to sell them on packages for next season, as his return looms after lasting just four plays this season. That was the last Jet fans saw of him this year, so Evan wonders if this “leak” is part of the same motivation to sell tickets after another season with double-digit losses.

“That’s how I view why things are leaked,” Evan said. “If Aaron Rodgers is having a closed-door practice to the media that nobody is supposed to know about, and a few weeks later, we know about it, you have to ask, ‘Why did that happen?’”
