Evan declares Jets are not dead just yet: 'This season is not over'
Back on Monday afternoon, Evan said the Jets were dead following a blowout loss to the Cardinals to drop them to 3-7 on the season.
But after some time to exhale and look over the numbers, he took a different tone to open up Wednesday’s show.
“What I’m about to say may bother some people,” Evan said. “But after my mathematics and studying, the New York Jets are still alive.
“This season is not over. It may feel over. It may feel hopeless after getting their ass kicked by the Cardinals, but what I am telling you is that the New York Jets have it all right in front of them.”
Thanks to the mediocrity of the AFC’s playoff picture, the Jets are indeed not mathematically eliminated, as the .500 Broncos currently occupy the final Wild Card spot. Per NFL.com, the Jets’ playoff odds increase to a still very low 20 percent with a win over the Colts this weekend, but if they could put together a run while other teams trip up, there is still the slightest of chances. That’s enough for Evan to still tune in, even if faith is low that they will actually be able to pull it off.
“If they can beat the Colts…and the teams ahead of them, and really, their schedule is not that tough,” Evan said. “If they win all their games, they’re a lock to make the playoffs. Even if it’s six out of seven, they have about a 58 percent chance.
“I am not ready to give up on a season that is not over yet…nine wins is probably getting you in.”
