Evan hopeful for Jets future with scathing Woody Johnson report serving as 'rock bottom'

Jets fans, and football fans in general, spent much of Thursday morning and afternoon ripping Gang Green and owner Woody Johnson for the revelations made in the latest scathing report by The Athletic, which included using Madden ratings to weigh trades, bashing players vocally in the locker room after losses, or taking input from teenage sons after generating opinions through blogs.

The longform article continued to cement Johnson as one of the most criticized owners in the league, as private accounts from several current and past members of the Jets organization spilled about Johnson’s intrusiveness and negative impact on the day-to-day operations of the organization.

The sentiment from many anonymous sources in the article was that the Jets will never be able to win with Johnson running the team as he currently is, but Evan Roberts believes this kind of bombshell story will spark the necessary change to finally turn things around.

“Today is a really good day to be a fan of the New York Jets,” Eva said. “I’m here to tell you that this is rock bottom. This is the moment, whether a lot of it’s true or it’s been heightened, I think this is gonna be so embarrassing for Woody Johnson that he’s gonna realize, ‘no mas.’

“He’s gonna realize that he can’t be this anymore. He’s gonna own the team. But not be this owner. The owner that supersedes trades because of Madden ratings...this kind of embarrassing stuff, to me, is the moment Woody Johnson turns into Leon Hess.”

New York is no stranger to tumultuous ownership tenures, like James Dolan before he turned the keys of the Knicks operations over to Leon Rose, or the Wilpons before they sold the Mets to Steve Cohen. With Dolan, it took several years of embarrassment and scathing stories before he finally stepped aside and watched from afar, and Evan believes this story by The Athletic could spark a similar change in philosophy from Jets ownership, and better days are ahead.

“This is why I have optimism now about the Jets future,” Evan said. “I think this story is a good thing because it’s gonna make Woody Johnson realize that this can’t continue anymore.

“In fact, I have more optimism about the Jets future than I do about the Giants future!”
