Evan: Jets current QB dilemma is 'a criticism of Joe Douglas'

With Aaron Rodgers done for the year, Zach Wilson is expected to be the starting quarterback the rest of the way for the Jets.

That doesn’t inspire much hope in Evan, who says this reality is a strike against the general manager who wasn’t prepared for this scenario.

“That’s a criticism of Joe Douglas. I wanted to cut ties with Zach Wilson,” Evan said. “I don’t think he’s good.

“While none of us could have predicted a torn Achilles four plays in, there was the thought of, ‘What if Aaron Rodgers misses a game, or a drive? Can someone come in and competently lead this team?’”

Evan wanted the Jets to add a competent veteran quarterback that could come in to replace Rodgers if he ever missed time, not a young quarterback who has shown no signs of production since being drafted. Now, a win-now roster is forced to rely on a quarterback who seems to be lagging far behind the rest of the team.

“Zach Wilson is a project,” Evan said. “You don’t ask a project to come into a tie game in the fourth quarter, because Aaron Rodgers got hurt, or start three games in a row.

“What about the guys who are terrible, and don’t develop? That’s the majority…they turn out to be nothing, and turn out to fail. That’s the majority.”
