After digesting Joe Benigno’s thoughts on Aaron Rodgers, Evan opened Tuesday’s show by declaring he is now in full agreement with his former co-host.
Evan wants to see Rodgers take the field again this season, no matter what the Jets playoff outlook is.
“Even if the Jets continue to lose…I want Aaron Rodgers back. I want him to play football,” Evan said.
“I need to test drive the vehicle…what is the biggest fear of Aaron Rodgers coming back this season? It’s getting hurt. If Rodgers comes back Week 15, the games don’t matter, and his Achilles pops. I hate to even envision that, but if it does happen, I know I need to move on. Then I get my answer before waiting the entire offseason and training camp and talking ourselves into the same thing we talked ourselves into this season.”
Rodgers has said he would come back if he is able, and if the Jets are still alive. The latter condition seems less and less likely by the week, but if it were up to Evan, he would bring Rodgers back no matter what.
“I’m not concerned he’s gonna come back and just forget how to play football,” Evan said. “What I do want…I need data points going into next year. If Aaron Rodgers is a mess and looks bad, I’ll file that away. Maybe that changes how I handle Aaron Rodgers in 2024…if he looks great behind this decrepit offensive line, and with this offensive coordinator who has been much maligned…then let’s go. I’m ready to go for 2024.
“It’s almost like an extended preseason.”
