Evan made sure to say that Zach Wilson had one of the best performances of his young career, but aside from a stretch of four drives in the middle of the game, he otherwise looked as putrid as ever when it came to moving the football.
Especially in his final three drives of the game when it mattered most.
“I thought his decision making was exceptionally better, and I can see why Jets fans would have a lot of hope going into next week against one of the worst defenses in the NFL,” Evan said. “Zach Wilson had a lot of great moments…now let’s get back to that reality. After that touchdown that made it 20-20, and with Cris Collinsworth’s jaw on the ground, Zach Wilson did nothing.
“I have no reason to hate Zach. I want Zach to be great. I’m a Jet fan. I’d rather be wrong and happy than be right and miserable. But on the final three drives of this football game…I ask a very simple question. What the hell did he do? Nothing.”
Wilson outdueled Patrick Mahomes, but took full responsibility for the 23-20 loss after dropping a shotgun snap that led to a turnover and to the Chiefs kicking what proved to be the game-winning field goal. Evan isn’t buying that the version of Wilson that orchestrated a promising comeback is here to stay, rather than the more familiar version that ended the game.
“We set the bar so ridiculously low, that the final three drives of this game, which were pathetic and reminded me of the first three drives of this game, is forgotten about and flushed,” Evan said.
