Evan & Tiki react to Aaron Rodgers' comments about Jets future

Aaron Rodgers made his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show and denied reports that he wants to keep playing football, but not in New York.

The aging quarterback did add, “I don’t even know if I want to play yet,” which opens the door for his Jets tenure ending after this season, but he spoke highly of his experience in New York and the relationships he has built, even if the results on the field have been disastrous.

Based on that response, Evan says he can at least take solace in the fact that Rodgers isn’t like Max Scherzer, Kevin Durant, or other New York “mercenaries” that bolted at the first sign of trouble, but he still doesn’t want to see Rodgers back under center in 2025. Initially, he wanted him gone right away. But now, he wants him here until the new leadership takes over and decides where they want to go with the franchise.

“I find it very unlikely that I am gonna sit here when the season is over...and I’m gonna want that guy back,” Evan said. “It is very likely that me and many Jets fans are gonna say ‘It was a failure, it didn’t work, and you’re gone.’”

Evan would much prefer Rodgers’ fate with the Jets coming down to the new general manager’s wishes in terms of how they move forward, so he wants no part of the team cutting him. He wants Rodgers to be “on the menu” for the future GM, but if he were running things, he would move on.

Rodgers says New York would be his “first option” if he decides to continue playing, but after initially voicing a desire to play four years with the Jets, it seems as if he physically and mentally won’t be up for two more years in the NFL, perhaps even one. Evan wouldn’t have a problem with 2024 being Rodgers’ last, at least with the Jets, even if it means the experiment was a colossal failure.

Tiki says the Jets need a "reset," but if they stick with Rodgers, there is a chance the future Hall of Famer could look closer to his old self with another full offseason to get healthy.

"This was a rushed rehab a year ago," Tiki said. "He doesn't look healthy...perhaps another year, and he looks healthier. I'm not saying he's gonna be, because he's over 40, but maybe he looks healthier, and that's all the difference."
