New York Jets running back Frank Gore left Sunday’s game just two plays in, evaluated for a head injury after colliding helmet-to-helmet with Raiders defensive back Damon Arnette – who also left the game to be evaluated for a head injury.
He was later officially ruled out with a concussion.
Gore got two yards on a second-and-10 carry, but Arnette came in low to make the tackle and ended up going head-to-head with the back. Both players were slow to get up and escorted to their sidelines, and it was an extra cause for concern for the Raiders, who lost Arnette in last week’s loss to Atlanta because of a concussion.
The Jets examined Gore quickly in the medical tent, and then took him back to the locker room for further evaluation. He was immediately replaced by Ty Johnson, who ran for 19 yards on four carries on the opening drive that led to a Jets touchdown. Josh Adams, who was elevated from the practice squad in the wake of La’Mical Perine’s injury, also received one red zone carry for no gain.
The Jets also lost guard Alex Van Roten on their first series, and he was eventually ruled out with a foot injury. Safety Ashtyn Davis also left in the third quarter with a foot injury.
