According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the Jets are a team to “keep an eye on” when it comes to Odell Beckham Jr. after the wide receiver was let go by the Ravens last week.
The Jets were close to adding the former Giant last season, but it never came to fruition. Gio says it should stay that way, and Gang Green should avoid adding more “aging” players to its roster.
“They are already relying on guys who are older and injury prone,” Gio said. “You got Tyron Smith, who could be, when healthy, one of the best left tackles in the game. I know you’re all in. But you don’t want to have so many question marks at key positions with guys that are older and have been hurt a million times.”
Gio also noted that Aaron Rodgers is 40 years old coming off a season-ending Achilles injury, which followed a year in which thumb issues sapped him of his usual production. So, there are enough age and healthy concerns on the roster already, so it would be best to avoid Beckham.
“I know the cap situation is what it is, and Joe Douglas has done a really nice job of rebuilding the offensive line on paper, but if you’re really gonna go in on a wide receiver opposite Garrett Wilson, then trade for Tee Higgins,” Gio said. “I would much rather explore that than adding Odell Beckham Jr.”
