Lamar Jackson to the Jets is the betting favorite outcome when it comes to the fate of the former MVP, and Gio is all kinds of excited for that possibility.
“I’m starting to see the common theme, and now I’m starting to believe it…how much fun would that be?” Gio said. “A former MVP coming in to save the day for the Jets! Yeah, a lot of money, and you probably have to send some picks over. Doesn’t matter. You finally get your quarterback situation solved for the first time in 100 years.”
But Boomer broke things down to show why bringing Jackson to New York will take a lot, perhaps too much to make it a reality.
“Lamar Jackson is an electrifying player…and he thinks he deserves to be paid more than what the Cleveland Browns gave to Deshaun Watson. That was an unbelievable contract. That was for $230 million guaranteed,” Boomer said. “In order to get Lamar Jackson in a trade, the ravens would have to put the exclusive franchise tag on him to slow things down…somewhere around $34 million would be guaranteed for him next year if he signs it…then they can continue to go through the contract negotiations with him or they can allow him to see if he can get a trade done to another team. if those trade parameters are met, there’s a chance the ravens would accept the trade, but then Lamar and his agent would have to negotiate the long-term contract with said new team, in this case, the Jets.
“It’s gonna be a ton of money and a ton of draft picks. Deshaun Watson got three first-round picks from the Browns…that is a ton. I know Lamar is an exciting player, but then you have to think about, if you bring him here, what is he doing to the other players already on the Jets?”
Still, Boomer does see a way where Jackson can end up with Gang Green, and finally give some stability to the quarterback position.
“Joe Douglas knows very well about Lamar Jackson, because Joe Douglas knows was in Baltimore then went to Philadelphia, so he’s tied into all of this,” Boomer said. “Nobody knows Lamar Jackson better than Joe Douglas. If he wanted to go for this, Woody Johnson would go for this. And the trade, they can make it happen.”
