Gio: Jets fans are moving through all stages of grief as season outlook becomes ominous

A caller wanted to get Gio’s thoughts on the Jets fanbase navigating the seven stages of grief, and as Gio went through the process since the start of the season, he couldn’t believe how strictly the stages have been followed since Aaron Rodgers went down.

“First there was shock,” Gio said. “Then there was the denial, which was ‘Zach [Wilson] is gonna be OK, give him a shot, the won they game.’ Then you got anger, which was BT going ‘We are unkillable!’ then there was bargaining, which was ‘Can we trade this guy for that guy? Can we get Tyrod Taylor?’ Then there is depression, which is what’s gonna happen after this week…that’s gonna be ‘Oh my God, the season is over, this is terrible, I don’t even want to watch this team anymore.’

“Then there is acceptance and hope, which is ‘The season is over, the team sucks, but Aaron Rodgers is gonna come back healthy next year.’”

Even Gio didn’t expect the blueprint to be followed that closely, but he believes most Jets fans are moving from the bargaining to the depression phase at the moment, and acceptance will hopefully not be far behind.

“It really is amazing how this has played out exactly how the stages of grief go,” Gio said.
