Boomer believes the Jets give Zach Wilson the next two games to try and show he is trending in the right direction, before naming another starting quarterback to try and save the season.
Gio isn’t giving Wilson that much time, and says if he has a first half reminiscent of how he played against the Patriots last year, he would be ready with a quick halftime hook.
“If we’re gonna call this a must-win game, if he is struggling at the level he did last year against the Patriots, why not try something different?” Gio said. “Tim Boyle has played in NFL games…he’s been there. it’s not as if you’re throwing in a guy like the Bengals, who never threw a pass in the NFL, because of Joe Burrow’s injury.”
The Jets are trying to save their season without Aaron Rodgers, and Gio says the Jets can’t afford to waste any more time with Wilson under center. If he can’t move the offense in the first half on Sunday, Boyle should take over.
“If we’re gonna call it a must-win game, and he is that bad, and the Jets are doing everything else but converting first downs through the air, it’s something you have to consider,” Gio said. “The thing I can’t take anymore is the development over this guy over everything else. Right now, the only think that matters is winning, and it doesn’t matter who is doing it.”
