Aaron Rodgers told reporters on Wednesday that his plan is still to play for the Jets beyond this season, which is a concern for Gio, who believes it’s time to move on and wave the white flag on the Rodgers experiment.
“If you look at the contract, they would really have to eat a lot of money, and a lot of dead money, just to get rid of him,” Gio said. “But they’re gonna need a new head coach, a new GM, and then 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers is sitting there? They gotta force him into retirement. They gotta get him out of there. They have to!
“I was talking about the Jet job being one of the worst in the league thinking Aaron Rodgers would retire. It becomes even worse if he decides to stay.”
Rodgers is over 40 years old and has led the Jets to a 3-7 record, and Gio doesn’t want to see if he can find it in another season. In fact, he doesn’t know if Rodgers would be all in on going through the preparations and the grind of another NFL season, and might as well call it a career when this disastrous season is over.
“Why would Aaron Rodgers want to go through another GM, another head coach, anther training camp, another losing season?” Gio said. “I know it’s a lot of money, but he’s made so much in his career. He’s gonna go through all that and maybe be worse than he was this year?
“He is done.”
