Gio: Seems like Jets are once again screwing up head coach hiring process

Boomer and Gio were discussing the vast number of Jets head coaching candidates during Thursday’s show, and Gio stopped the discussion to point out some glaring omissions.

“Except guys who have won Super Bowls before, because they’re not talking to Mike McCarthy, Pete Carroll, or Jon Gruden,” Gio said. “But everybody else.

“It’s really amazing when you put together a list and then there's three guys out there - I'm not saying that you have to hire these guys - but to have that many interviews and then not bring those guys in.”

Gio has voiced his reluctance to hiring a first-year head coach, like an Aaron Glenn, but one of the top head coaching candidates of the offseason is Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who reportedly didn’t have interest in the Jets. But to not at least call and try to get him to sit down to discuss the position, in addition to the other candidates that they have not reached out to, tells Gio that the Jets are once again fumbling the hiring process.

“I agree that Ben Johnson is not taking the Jets job, but at least request him,” Gio said. “Get him in the building. He’s the preeminent offensive mind in football. Pick his brain a little bit.

“It just shows you that for the most part, they don't know what they're doing again. That's what it feels like.”
