Now that the trade for Aaron Rodgers has been locked down, Gio asks the question: is Joe Douglas on his way to becoming the best general manager in Jets history?
“As he stands here now, with the fact that Zach Wilson has been not good, but he’s on top of the mountain,” Gio said. “Well, he’s at the base just before the top of the mountain.
“When you whiff at the No. 2 overall pick at the quarterback position, and then somehow, two years later, get one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game, and still keep your guy on the roster and hope he turns out to be something, is about as good as it gets.”
Zach Wilson seems like a major miss for Douglas, but the rest of his draft picks have been widely praised, especially Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson. Now, he finished a deal to bring in one of the best quarterbacks of all time, and turned his team into a contender.
“The only reason Aaron Rodgers is here is they did a great job building the team on both sides of the ball, they made a really smart hire in Nathaniel Hackett, and they’ve put themselves in a position to compete, and that’s all Joe Douglas,” Gio said.
“Here he is now. Could he go from one of the best general managers as far as assembling a team in the draft in Jets history to the absolute best in Jets history?”
