Gio: Latest Woody Johnson report paints owner as 'impulsive and has no idea what he's doing'

Another scathing report on Woody Johnson has been released, as The Athletic released new details that include the Jets owner using Madden ratings to sway roster decisions, insulting players after losses while his family roams the locker room, and allowing his teenage sons to have input on decisions around the team.

The report set social media ablaze with the several revelations that came from the story, but for Gio, it wasn’t much of a surprise, and it only reinforced how he already felt about the current state, and the future, of the organization.

“This is why I’ve been saying for months that anybody worth a you-know-what who is a head coach or general manager candidate is gonna think twice about taking this job,” Gio said. “If I’m Woody and I want Mike Vrabel, I’m paying him more than anybody else.

“It basically paints a picture of a guy who is impulsive and has no idea what he’s doing...and has created an environment that is almost impossible to succeed in.”

Boomer still believes that there will be several worthy candidates interested in the job, as many would rather have a prominent position in the NFL and deal with an intrusive, impulsive owner rather than remain out of the league. But it doesn’t help that the perception around the Jets with Johnson in the fold continues to erode.

“There are guys out there like Dimitroff and Jon Robinson who would be more than happy to take the job,” Boomer said. “It’s a job, one of 32 jobs, and it’s a big job. They’ll deal with all the outside noise, and I’m sure they’ll be warned about all this stuff.

“If it is accurate...that makes it a really difficult situation for a lot of people on this staff. It just makes it impossible.”
