Gio says if one thing is for certain after the Jets’ narrow loss to the Vikings on Sunday, it’s that this Gang Green squad is not a fan of the franchise’s hopeful quarterback of the future.
“This team cannot stand Zach Wilson,” Gio said. “They wore all sorts of ‘Mike Effin White’ shirts, Garrett Wilson talked about Mike White at the end of this game like he was Jerry Rice and Mike White was Joe Montana, and they had won all these Super Bowls together. The way he was talking about him, ‘I wish I could have won it for him,’ think about that compared to where we just came from!”
Indeed, the team traveled to Minnesota decked out in Mike White shirts, then arrived to Sunday’s game wearing Mighty Ducks jerseys, White included. Players have raved about White since he took over the starting job, and he seems to be a clear clubhouse favorite.
Does that mean the team hates their former starting quarterback? No teammate has said anything negative publicly, but they certainly seem thrilled that White is currently leading the team.
