Gio hates that he has to watch Zach Wilson on a weekly basis, when he and Jets fans were fired up to watch Aaron Rodgers this year, but his frustration is no longer with the former No. 2 overall pick.
It is now with the Jets front office that seems unwilling to admit that they missed with that second overall pick in 2021.
“I’m done being mad at Zach Wilson. It’s not even about him anymore,” Gio said. “I’m annoyed that I have to watch him play football, but it’s not his fault anymore. He can’t do it. It’s the Jets’ fault for putting him out there at this point. It’s Robert Saleh’s fault, it’s Joe Douglas’ fault. They are too stubborn.
“I know sitting here and yelling for Tim Boyle sounds crazy, but when you know this guy can’t play, you gotta try something else. You just have to…at least bring someone in for a workout.”
Instead, the Jets have continued to back Wilson and keep him as the starter, and Gio says the organization is way too bent on protecting Wilson and making sure he knows the team believes in him.
“To hurt his confidence? What are we doing?” Gio said. “It’s not his confidence holding him back. It’s everything. He just can’t play the game at this level. There have been a million busts high in the draft. Admit that you took one. It’s over.”
